Some doctors have advanced ultasounds (3D) that maybe able to find out the sex but it does not happen often. Sometimes they tell you it is a girl because the parts are hard to see.
The baby does have a heartbeat at 7 weeks and the doctor should be able to play it for you.
In the womb babies have male and female ducts that change into parts with the hormones secreted by the X or Y chromosones deliver by the father, so keep that in mind, when asking your doctor about the sex.
Good Luck with the Ultrasound.

Yes the baby has a heartbeat at 7 weeks though not always detectable but the sex cannot be found out at this stage.

Yeah, the baby has a heartbeat but you can't tell from that - it's just an old-wives tale that one sex has a faster heartbeat than the other. You really can't tell from a sonogram either at that age. Come to think of it, it's hard to tell decisively even when they're twice that old. Both my boys gave a nice crotch shot during their sonos so it was obvious with them. I think an amnio is more sure but since there's a small chance of a miscarriage with an amnio, I don't think determination of sex alone is worth the risk of that test. TMI?

no sex cannot be determined at seven weeks. The genetalia doesn't form until the 12th week and it is usually quite a few weeks after that before they will even venture to say what the sex is.
A baby does have a heartbeat at 7 weeks gestation

but babies can have a heartbeat as early as 5 weeks(mine did) :) and they can see the heartbeart with a transvaginal sonogram (in the vag) :) Congrats

Yes, there is a heartbeat, but no way a dr. could tell the sex of the baby that early.
