The only time I have ever seen anyone use a knife and fork to eat a pizza is when they are an extremely thin crust with a lot of different toppings. That means that the person has attempted to pick it up to eat it, and the toppings are falling everywhere.
I certainly would not debate with anyone about it, but pizza is considered to be a finger food which means it is eaten with the hands.
The older lady you were drawn into the debate with must have a very boring life and no realization of the real world. There must be dozens of other things that she could be spending her time thinking about.
I hope you enjoyed your pizza with your HANDS!
Have a good night.

Traditionally, you should cut a slice of the pizza, then, with your hands, fold it enough (often in half) that it doesn't flop and spill its toppings in your lap.
