I participate in track and field. I've been doing extra stretches lately to keep my calfs nice and loose, but my coach says she still sees me limping. >_< What is the cause of this and what can I do to prevent it?

If you do not feel you are limping but someone else can see it, it may be a sign that your body awareness is not all that great. You may need some help from a physcial therapist or another profession who can analyze your gait (walking pattern) and discern the cause of the limp.

Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT" and search your home area. The website will tell you who is board-certified in Sports PT (SCS after their name).

Good luck!

You might have shin-splints, it doesn't matter how loose you keep the calf muscle, when you are a sprinter you have a muscle that you use to keep on your toes and it pulls on your bone and it pulls the muscle from the bone and all you can do is ask your sports medicine person (trainer) at your school to rub it out to try to make it better, it'll hurt really badly when you first get it done (and several times after, okay every time you get it rubbed out) , but it'll make it better in the end. If it's not shin-splints get it checked out.

It could be a sprain which is caused by overuse of a muscle.
