Brilliance is optional; Diligence is required.

Sure you can be brilliant, but hard work is really what makes college a success.

That said, I have hardly had to read the book during my 4 years of college. Of course, there are exceptions to that. Use the book for supplemental information--UNLESS the professor says half the test will be from the book and half will be from lecture...then you'd better read it.

The lecture notes-know them inside out. For my first couple of years of college, I used note cards a lot because there were tons of terms and such-that's a good idea. Whatever you do to study, make sure it involves writing the notes again, because that seems to make things stick really well. Oh, and this means that you will actually have to go to class...which I strongly recommend no matter how boring it is.

Realize that some semesters are worse than others, and there will be times you can't hang out with your friends if you want to maintain a 3.3 or above. There were two semesters for me that I went out MAYBE twice during the whole semester because I just had something every single day, whether it was a project, a paper, or a test.

You'll do fine.

Study A LOT, preferably in a place without distractions. Don't skip class if at all possible. Talk to the professors about what you have learned or what you don't understand. They notice the students who take interest in what they teach and consequently are a little kinder to them when grading. I've had 2 high B's become A's because I showed interest.

Actually go to class, actually read the book, and do the homework yourself. Get help from friends with assignments, but only when you are stuck, not as a shortcut for doing your own work. Talk to professors outside of class, they have a heck of a lot of knowledge about their subjects, and about life in general. Take some time for yourself to do something fun and relaxing so that you don't go nuts with all the work you have...

Study hard for tests, use study groups if they help you, keep up with the reading so you will understand and absorb more when the professor talks about it in class, don't procrastinate, attend class and don't sleep through it, definitely ask about anything you don't understand because it will likely be on the test. Don't get involved in so many extracurricular activities and social events that you don't have time for what you came to school for.

When you first find out about an assignment from your professor don't put it off. Start on it as soon as you can and finish it. That way you don't rush it and have plenty of time to perfect it for the best grade.

Make sure your attendence is top notch, dont miss any more than two days, if even. Make sure your grades are B and higher. And always do the extra credit in class.
