When buying or trading for a farm tractor what should a person watch out for.

you should make sure what year it is and how good it's condition is as well as the 'blue book' value for it so you know that you're not getting swindled. tracters don't go down in value like cars do, but some people like to put a higher than average price on theirs to make profit. definately make sure it's in good running order and everything works as well as if anything needs to be repaied or replaced and what it might cost to have that performed either yourself or an appropriate farm mechanic.
