why do other countries watch america's show's???

But we cant watch their shows???
do they even have any movie's or shows well I know china,Japan an Mexico do but what about the other Countries??

Some of us Mexicans think Mexican shows are nothing more than crap. There are only two networks and one of them specializes in producing TV for jerks, those are not my own words but those of the owner and big boss. Nowadays his kid runs the business and will stoop to anything in order to keep the ratings. They are promoting a number of home produced shows, but I honestly think they will not offer anything worth watching. The other network also produces crappy shows, I believe the only thing worthwhile watching is a program called Mexico XXI Century which is produced by an independent studio. We do not have cable channels that turn out their own stuff, but let's face it, Mexican TV shows are pathetic. You might try the soaps, they are slightly less crappy, actually Ugly Betty is a remake of a Colombian original.
As to American shows, well Americans were the first who exploited the potential of TV and continue to do so, there is more competition between networks and companies like Sony, Fox, Warner and others with their own cable industries. Mexico purchased the rights to air some shows, the same season for years at a time. The new format of handling things by seasons is fine by me because I watch cable TV anyway, but one of the networks is trying to keep up with the seasons and that costs a bundle, and of course you get the reruns and the marathons prior to the incept of the new season, just in case you missed a couple of chapters, but , no way am I going to waste my time watching public broadcast TV other than newscasts, and these are also not the hottest item available. American shows were more interesting and we Mexicans have been raised for decades on this diet, so it is also a habit, you might say. America is also our neighbor and their production and marketing strategies are refined to perfection. We have also been raised on Japanese cartoons and series since the late sixties and early seventies, so we are also familiar with Japanese animation and their violent style.

Would you, as an American, be willing to watch shows from other countries? Would your networks and your industry allow it? So far our soaps, corny as they are, are still more interesting than any of yours, no wonder they are one of our number one exports.
Mexico has an incredible amount of talent, which is strangled by the prejudices and fixed standards of the two big networks, as long as there is no competition, things will sadly remain the same.

Hmmm well in Canada I get American channels, Canada and Mexico... But I would love to watch some UK TV or Australian just so I can see what is up over there...

Canada has full access to most American networks

And India has Bollywood instead of Hollywood...!

Ya ur right. I have direct tv and all the spansih channels on there i cant watch, i have to "pay extra for them". I guess american shows are just plain GOOD!!! The other countries shows must be pretty boring! but who knows!

because we have no choice in the matter but to watch american crappy shows - especially friends and ugly betty and simpsons and bla bla bla

I would rather watch our own shows true blue aussie shows and comedies and quite frankly I would prefer to watch british comedy rather than american shows

The U.K. do too. Theirs aren't as good of quality as ours and they don't have as many, so they watch ours. And then they complain that we suck after they go and steal everything of ours! Grr...
