We are having a debate in school...Should teaching tolerance to homosexuality be taught in schools? Why and why not?

To the homosexual people that see this question...if you were still in school or if you still are...would you want to have your sexual orientation taught to your fellow students? why and why not?

Do you believe this can cause stereotyping and more bullying and violence? Should this be taught at home? Can tolerance be taught?

Yes, it should be taught. Just like sex education and the theory of evolution.

It should be taught because knowledge is power.

I myself am straight, but I definitely believe that tolerance to homosexuality should be taught in school. We teach tolerance towards other races, we teach tolerance towards other religions, what is so different about this issue. If anything this will eliminate stereotyping and bullying because the students will have more of an understanding and will realize that bullying a person because of their orientation is just as bad as bullying someone because of the color of their skin. Tolerance should also be taught at home. Tolerance can definitely be taught, though it should be taught and practiced from a young age. The fact that slavery was abolished and Jews were made full citizens proves that tolerance can be taught. We are all equal.

Obviously zazazazaza wants his orientation taught.

I think that school's shouldn't cover every single little detail of homosexuality, but I think they should most definitely teach tolerance. They will preach saying they're 100% accepting/tolerant of everyone, but rarely is that the case. Tolerance, in my opinion, can be taught.

Wow, "zazazaza", that was kind of....strange. At any rate, when I DO become a teacher I will enforce tolerance. This is not to imply that I will enforce acceptance. There's a difference. The last thing I will put up with is bullcrap from kids who hurt other kids for ANY reason. To answer your question, yes! I think tolerance should be taught. Otherwise, the world will continue to fall apart.

I usually don't answer questions like this unless it's in the homework section but this is just too important:
yes; it's up there with tolerance for differences in religion, nationality, accent, social strata, etc.
It's a huge step to making this place a better one for all of us. People need to broaden their minds.
Good luck on the debate.

Tolerance for all people should always be taught. I'm a little surprised this is even a question. Why would you NOT teach tolerance?
