To park in a handicapped spot you need to have a tag hanging from your mirror or the card clearly displayed on your dashboard.

You probably see several veterans using these handicap spots because their getting older and have medical problems that may not be visible at first glance. My grandfather was the same way, he couldn't walk long distances and became disoriented if he did.

Unless the Veteran has handicapped plates or a hang tag, he is not entitled to park there ! Some jurisdictions make an exception for wounded/disabled vets tags though !!!

People with a handicap placard or handicap license plate can park in disabled parking. The veteran plates you are probably referring to are the yellow ones that are for disabled vets, my husband has one.

This plate does not designate you to park in handicap unless you have the wheelchair emblem on the plate or the placard in the window.

My husband has a plate for disabled vet, but does not have the right to park in disabled parking because he has not applied for the disabled parking. They must have the emblem or card in the window. Did I make sense or did I just ramble on??? :)

Legally, only those whom have been issued a plate approved by their Physician, or a tag over the mirror !! I have one being in a motorized wheelchair, but selfish people everywhere still keep parking there anyway. So Sad ! Oh, by the way, the Ticket is way over $100.00 plus towing, plus storage!! NICE !

If the vet plates have a purple heart on them, that person is considered disabled.

You must have a handycap pass hanging from your mirror. Or either take your chances with a good explanation to a police officer.
