It took years for their numbers to swell, lets take years (six) to send them home. AND dry up the illegal employment opportunites to encourage self deportation.

The immigration issue is so hot that no politician dare make any effort to correct it. Several uncomfortable truths would have to be brought before the public - one of which is that the illegal immigrants are making a contribution to our economy and an abrupt removal would be a disaster.

Your 6 year phased plan might bring the numbers down, but no politician could propose it without being accused of 'coddling' the illegals...and it does not address the revolving-door of re-entering illegals.

While the illegals do make a contribution the US economy by paying taxes, they also drain money from the US by using medical services and public schooling that they dont pay for. Also, the current unemployment rate in the U.S. is 4.8%. In a country of about 300,000,000 people that is about 14,400,000. So if the illegal immigrants have that many jobs, a lot of unemployed Americans can replace them. So then we have fewer unemployed Americans and fewer illegal immigrants. That sounds good to me.
