Tvs have to power a screen and some kind of reception device while computers have a screen and disk drives, fans, hard disks etc to run?Surely this takes more power?

TVs are a larger piece of equipment.However newer TVs use less.After solid state came out power usages dropped considerably.The picture tubes of old was a power hogs.If you will look in your tower the fan motors are about the size of toy race track car.All in all I would say the power usage of a 25 inch non flat panel TV is about the same as a computer...Hope this helps

I reckonn modern tele's work at the same usage has computers.I never leave my tele on stand by yet I do my computer.Will have to try & get into habit of switching it off at mains.
