You will need an entirely new motherboard.
The CPU socket on that PC does not support dual core.
Along with newer RAM ... you are better off buying a new PC.

your best bet is to buy a new computer.your mother board from 2001 will not support dual core.and you can buy a lower end computer that is 3 times as fast as the one you got for around $500.a dual core processor and supported mother board will cost almost as much.,..good luck

What information are you looking for? If you would like suggestions on what to get, you will probably need a new motherboard, RAM and possibly a different video card if you want a faster computer. Dual core is good for users running intensive programs such as new games. It is less useful for those running simpler programs such as Word since it is slightly slower for these.

You may be able to run these, (below) if your motherboard can support the expanded heat sinks and power draw. You'll need to have some one cross reference your motherboard. I doubt you'll be able to to run the 2.3 Ghz they require later boards to fit the humungous cooling setups the come with and require. Don't try to use a 2.33 or higher without it. Your expensive chip will only burn up in a few months.
Find out if your system can support these.

A fairly old board supporting 478 socket cpus for 200/266 fsb.(basically the 400 or 533 fsb cpus)
http://www.pricewatch.com/cpu/socket_478.htm.
Something like a P4 2.53GHz cpu is the fastest it can use.

It would probably be cheaper to buy a new PC than do the upgrade.
