Me and my friends were also quite outraged at the abrupt end to the series. So much in fact, that we decided to look up why.
What happened is that one of the producers quit, and the others on the show were to cheap/lazy to hire a new one. Production of the show has therefore been indefinitely put on hold. I guess they figured anyone who truly wanted to know the ending would simply read the manga from where the anime left off.
However, I do not see any light at the end of the tunnel where the anime is concerned.

Well, unfortunatly, many, many anime end in cliffhangers/ unsatisfying ways. Inuyasha was pulled from broadcasting due to ratings and, it's unlikely the animation company that owned the rights want to take a chance re-animating a show that they had to stop. [it was rumored that Inuyasha was scheduled for more than 167 episodes but they stopped it abruptly].
Unless the manga has a strong fan following, there most likely won't be any anime to continue after the manga. Much of Rumiko Takahashi's [creator's] works end in an unsatisfying way in the anime and ends justifylingly in the manga, but no animated material was made to show the ending. [example: Ranma 1/2]
So far there have been no official annoucements reguarding any further Inuyasha animation or any interst in it, unfortunatly.

the 1st 4 seasons or so of the anime remained very dedicated to the memories of the manga. even nevertheless after that, the anime finally caught up with the manga. The anime creators did no longer choose for to proceed with their very own version of the tale and stray removed from the manga, so they desperate to make filler episodes - episodes that don't ensue interior the unique manga and subsequently don't have something to do with the main plot of the tale; they're in many circumstances in simple terms area-memories that contain the characters doing issues that haven't any magnitude to the tale's substantial conflict. Many long-working anime sequence' that are consistent with a manga sequence, alongside with Naruto and One Piece, comprise filler episodes as a fashion to grant the manga artists time to create extra memories for the anime to stay with-up on. in case you're questioning, some examples of the filler episodes in Inuyasha are episodes seventy 5 to seventy 9, episodes 89 to a hundred and one, and episodes 133 to one hundred forty. Filler episodes in many circumstances instruct unpopular between followers, exceptionally whilst they arrive one good after yet another, as replaced into the case over the final 2 seasons of Inuyasha. So somewhat than proceed to create successions of unpopular filler episodes, the anime creators finally desperate to easily provide up making episodes and enable followers proceed following up on the Inuyasha tale by the manga basically. For those of you who've considered the in simple terms good episode, you recognize that it is not any form of ending in any respect, yet is in simple terms the anime version of manga financial ruin 355.
