My family owns a restaurant, one of our employees/my husbands buddy was shot and killed Monday over a basketball game. He was 24 years old. (Awesome guy!)
My 12 year old went to school this morning to find out a student in the 8th grade hung himself in his basement either last night or this morning.
Can you guys grasp how depressing the world is? I cant even watch the news, its too depressing.
Man shoots his girlfriend, shoots at her 9 year old then takes his life. I could cry everynight for the unmentionable that happens everyday. Anyone with me?

Yes, I hate watching the local news and seeing that sort of thing. I'm very sorry about your friend and your son's classmate.

Yes the world does get depressing. I guess it goes through spurts or even spurst in your own life where there seems to be more tragedy than beauty.

I think also that media has definately got our attention to how bad things are in the world. How often do you see a nice Human Interest story - never happens - it always leads with the most tragic, headlining event of the day.

I guess at the same time the world cannot help those people involved in the tragedies (such as war camps etc) if we didn't know about them.

It's not tragedy all the time but you are right - it is depressing when it does happen. It's amazing how often it can happen to someone you know.

Sad - but it is a reflection of the era we are living in.

Some people view the news and see no hope at all. Some people see more.

I read where something terrible happened to a person the day before at, say, 9:30 PM. I think about what I was doing at that time and realize it was happening while I was involved in my own life. Every second of every day something terrible is happening to someone----it makes you think.

Yep, I know exactly how depressing it can seem. Although, not everything is depressing or bad news ... that's just what the news people choose to discuss. I think that it would be great if they could talk about good things, too. However, you should try to look at the bright side always.

WE do the best we can at raising them teach them to stand up for them self's and others being victims. as long as it doesn't put there life's in harm way so then what. we worry, cry, pray, hope, care and above all listen. Its not perfect but we can help too. News is for every one too bad they show only the bad. But that is what sells. I would like to find a rich person with nothing better to do but build a web site and news paper covering the news reporters see how they like it. Now wouldn't that be worth watching. But you see I got your attention didn't I its still bad news. Hang in there I have 5 of them and yes it scares the hell out of me too. but I listen. DAD

There is a common denominator with stories such as these, a lack of religion and Jesus in their life.
I am Catholic and admittedly don't attend church as frequently as I should.
But god is usually what is missing in peoples lives. Compassion and love no longer exist in peoples lives.
I feel really bad too when things happen to people especially children.
Hang in there!

If you are not part of the solution, ie: volunteering, mentoring, cleaning up your neighborhood, then you will never see the "good" side of life.
