Try swaddling her tightly and giving her a pacifier.

Some people swear by sleep positioners (those foam blocks that won't let a baby roll over).

I found that one of my daughters would happily sleep in her crib IF we put her in her car seat and put the seat in the crib. But, hey--it worked, and eventually she didn't need the car seat anymore.

Try propping baby up with either a wedge that you can buy at a store (I know they are sold online at walmart.com) or a really firm pillow but Docs dont recommend it . U could put the pillow under the mattress or prop up the head of the crib on something. I was having the same problem with my baby and after I did that he sleeps alot better now.

Side sleeping seemed safer to me. I wouldn't consider the stomach for obvious reasons, but I worried about choking when he slept on his back. My grandmother bought him one of those side prop things with foam blocks covered in soft cloth when he was about a week old. He loved the closeness of it, even after he began Hating swaddling and socks (at about 4 weeks). He slept propped between that thing until he was too big to squeeze between it...Very funny looking! The cover snapped off for easy washing.

oh my baby HATED sleeping on her back when we brought her home--she needed to be propped up a little. the thingy she was in in the hospital was at an angle-it wasnt flat down, so maybe that is why...
what I do now is let her sleep in her swing.
or, I have a cuddle me pillow (like a boppy) and I place her in/on that.
I also put her on the recliner-in one corner so she is propped
(by propped I mean positioned so her head is above her belly)
I dont know why but she just hated being flat on her back, she's getting better now-she plays on her back, but for some reason she just needed to be propped at an angle for sleeping.
you can try your carseat if you dont have a swing.

We couldnt swaddle our first because he had a leg brace on. The only thing that worked was the car seat. MAKE SURE TO STRAP IN TIGHT ENOUGH. Then if we'd have to lightly swing it to get him to go out. Some nights we resorted to the swing too, and slept on the couch next to it. 1st whatevers safe, and second whatever works.
When he got bigger and with our second we loved this little mesh matress thing that went in our bed between us. Made it handy to nurse and sing him back to sleep.

BREATHABLE MATTRESS
some babies will only be comfortable on their stomach to go to sleep the breathable mattress allows them to breath through it so they can not sufforcate and you dont need to stress about them not being able to breath.
if you asked some older people sleeping on their stomach is how they were put to bed and it is how they put their babies to sleep.

Your new baby...as in just born?

You said it right: You are having problems...not the baby. Put her on her back, let her cry (yeah, I know, I went through it too...my son damn near peeled the paint off the wall crying for two nights..but, alas; he is healthy, well adjusted, and 8 years old now) and she will eventually fall asleep.

Follow the link below. It is important that you read it (SIDS WARNING) for your daughter's safety.

It will suck to hear your baby cry, but remember: Going to sleep on her back is the most healthy position and it is your responsibility to get her, and keep her there.

alot of babies who dont like sleeping flat on their backs have a tiny bit of reflux (heartburn) putting 2 books under one end of crib will elevate them enough to be comfy, also car seats , bouncers and swings help. swaddling can help, pacifiers , meds for acid reflux available, heartbeat bear , rubbing their tummy and singing good luck
