This would mean their families would come as well (30 to 40 million in all)

There is no practical way to identify and deport 12 million people - a number that is roughly equal to the population of Ohio. If we don't end up with something like the Bush plan, we will probably end up doing nothing, which means keeping the current dysfunctional system where we:

1. Talk about spending billions of dollars to build fences that are thousands of miles long.

2. Continue to randomly arrest and deport people in numbers that don't make even a small dent in the 12 million.

The only long term solution to the problem is to help Mexico become so prosperous, that Mexicans no longer feel that that they need to come to the U.S. to work.

Man I certainly hope not. But that does seem to be what they're determined to do. I don't know if I agree with your 30-40 million figure, but I do believe that any amnesty program will only cause more desperately poor people to try and get in. If we fill this country with poor people, we are going to be a poor country. But the stock market will still be booming.

And apparently Charity hasn't been listening. The best way to deal with the whole situation is to go after the people who hire illegal immigrants. If they can't work here they'll simply walk back by themselves.

Been there, tried that. During Clinton with a republican congress and a republican senate they tried something similar to amnesty. If the illegals filled-out papaerwork to become legal, they could stay. Most didn't bother to try to become legal. The concept did nothing to stem the flow of illegals. Te end result was that the maids and gardeners working in repub households could stay.

First, this country needs to put the brakes on illegal immigration. Then we need to get tough on the illegals already here.

My guess is that they will, in spite of virtually the whole country: liberals, conservatives, and independents alike speaking out AGAINST amnesty.
George Bush's policies on illegal immigration are one of the areas where I most criticize him. The term "comprehensive strategy" sends chills down my back every time I hear it come from his mouth.
What's sad is that very few politicians (including two Republican contenders for president: Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter, neither of whom will get the nomination unfortunately) have the gall to stand up to these criminals!
The Demoncrats are afraid of alienating hispanics by taking action against illegal alien criminals.
The Republicants are afraid of losing corperation votes by cutting off that source of cheap labor.
NEITHER party is concerned about what the citizens of this country want, and it's sad.

In my state (overrun with illegals,) there is actually an organization promoting a driver's license provision for illegals. Another package they are pushing is to make employers pay illegals the legal wage. I know it sounds unreal but it is true. The murders they commit alone are staggering. We have been invaded. I pray that Bush does not get his way on this one.

When are WE going to protest this, rather than the war? Rather than THEM protesting?

Both parties are wrong on immigration. Neither party has a great solution.

I don't even have a great one. But it's looking more like annex Mexico. The wealthy ones stay there. And if we annexed, they could pay some taxes.

How do we get rid of them? No one's been able to explain that to me yet. How to implement an economically feasible plan to round up millions of illegals when we can't even prevent them from coming in?
