Here are a couple of links that tell you about Long Sash (orion) and how the Milky way is the campfires of the Happy Hunting Grounds.
Another link about Coyote and how when the Great Spirit assigned him the task of placing pictures of all the animals in the sky with the shiny stones (stars), Coyote started out doing the job right, then got bored and flung all the rest of the stones into the sky. Too late he realized he had not kept enough stones to put his own picture in the sky which is why coyote howls at night.
