ssbkgd - ScanSoft Background Update Application

Would seem to be harmless, a component of some software put out by ScanSoft. They make a PDF Converter, OmniPage , and also are the company that makes Dragon Naturally Speaking, a program that is used for controlling your computer via your own voice through a microphone (also used for dictation). If you have any of those programs on your computer, that's likely where it's from. Something else that would help you in the future to identify your processes is "Process Moniter" by Sysinternals. It not only lists which procresses are running on your computer, but also shows the path of the file or files using that process. Makes it a lot easier to differentiate between necessary processes and spyware, virus, or malware. Right now, Microsoft has free downloads of this and other useful tools on their site in the downloads area.

Anytime you are wondering about if something is safe or sypware or virus......copy/paste the exact name of it and put it then in your search bar at your home page before accepting it or denying it....in your search you will find out about what the site or program is that is being asked about....then you can make a good decision....this will be good info for any future things you may run across....
