I can't believe the amount of tomboys we have today. I think it is disturbing. I know a 10 year old girl and she has short hair and dresses like a boy and her mom doesn't do a thing about it. I believe it is important for girls to be trained while they are young to be feminine, chaste, docile, shamefaced, and submissive. This whole attitude of some girls who watch boy's cartoons, play 'guns', and play basketball is very messed up. I know grown women to this day that wear nothing but pants - it is so disgusting. Plus, look at the women physical education instructors in school and how most of them are so butch and many of the players take after them. And what the heck are girls doing playing Lacrosse?? Girls need to grow up right, learn how to cook and clean and separate themselves from boyish things. Agree?

I couldn't disagree with you more. Growing up as a girl myself I can tell you for one that being a "tom boy" is just a stage that some girls go through. Playing guns, dressing a certain , wearing your hair a certain way does not effect your femininity at all. It's how some girls feel comfortable, would you like for someone to dictate how you decide to wear your hair and dress? I don't think so. When I was around 13 I remember wearing baggy clothes and not really wanting to wear dresses because I was filling out as a young woman and was feeling really insecure about it so I would cover it up. the more the better. Yes they need to learn women things" which I wouldn't call "women things" but just survival skills. Knowing how to cook and learning how to make your self presentable are just lessons males and females need to learn in general, doesn't matter what you wear. I do on the other hand believe there is a double standard there, because while girls can wear boy clothes and do "boy things" , the roles really can't be reversed without there being an issue.

I totally disagree with you! Girls don't need to cook and clean to be women and watching so called boy cartoons or playing with toy guns is a sexist thing that you say. we are in 2007 and guess what when i was a young girl i was a tomboy and now that i'm a grown women with two boys thankfully i was a tomboy because I don't mind searching for bugs and picking up worms or buying mice and playing with them with my boys screamish girls are nothing but whiny pains in the a.s.s. and by the way I do like to wear dresses sometimes.

Hell no! The way I see it girls have the same right as boys to wear those kinds of clothes. Also have you ever looked around? There are so many cutsie girls out there. Some girls, like me, feel like they don't want to be like every other girl. They want to be themselves. Besides tom boys also have to be built and able to fight. Plus, try wearing a skirt ar tight pants all day long, go ahead just try it. See how you like it and why some girls like boy stuff better. Short hair is just a style. There can be tom boys with long hair ya know

I believe it is prefectly fine. It is usally a stage anyway. If its not a stage thats okay too. There is no reason girls cannot act like boys. I mean I used to be a tomboy but am now a girly girl. I think we should not worry about it.

NO!!!!!!!!! i am not going to cook or clean for any dude unless they are like my husband. women are not owned by dudes and they do not always have to be "girly". i don't want to be docile sub-what ever you called it. if every girl in the world was like that, so many women would be "taken advantage of" to put it lighty (AKA raped) pants and shorts are the most comferatabel things around. skirts are anoying and dresses are gay. so what if i have short hair and i go play a little foot ball every now and then. i like it. I CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU DUDE. if you were a girl would you want to be prissy all the time? JERK

well i think they should be who they want to be but not take it
to far.because the way you said it,that (to me) is not being a tomboy,
that's strange her mom should comment about that.but some girls become tomboys because they fell more relaxed around boys rather than girls because girls can be more insulting than most boys so no i don't think they should be "discouraged" about it because some girls like to play sports and its wrong to tell a girl she should play spots just because shes a girlie girl.

I hope you're joking, otherwise you're only displaying how weak and fragile you feel toward mature women and your desperate need to castrate them - metaphorically speaking. If that is the case, not only do I pity you, I also fear you, for you are a rapist in the make. Try to overcome your feeling of inadequacy and inferiority and enjoy life with mature and empowered women.

The sense of empowerment experience by the so call "tomboys" prepares them for becoming leaders in their future professional careers and also make them much less likely to become trapped in abusive relations. This, of course, is what you fear.

As an additional note, I would also like to comment that "tomboys" are less propense to engaging in promiscuous behavior at early teenage years, which increases the likelihood of early pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

I think it'll be different once you have a child.

It's important to let your child by whatever they want to be.

You're not helping your child any if you force them to act and stress a certain way.

I think that Children need to be taught manners, etc. but No one should be forced to dress or play a way if they don't want to.

As a child I loved dresses and my hair done but I also LOVED dirt bikes, go carts, sports, and mud!!
I'm not overly girlie now but I'm not boyish either.

No. I think I am tomboy ...I work on cars, love rodeos & drive a muscle car.
And yet, I pretty much wear low cut dresses, love my Prada bags, wear heels & pink is my favorite color.
And I am one heck of a cook & one of my best dishes is Chateaubriand.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to say no.

Many girls can do whatever they want. boyish or girlish, they're still girls.

In my opinion, making girls not become tomboys is just like making someone live life they want it to be...this is happening to me actually. I'm not living my life the way i want to, my parents are forcing me to do many things I don't like doing. xP

But it would be just so SICKENING if boys were girly in my opinion. xP
