log (base9) (1/3) = x

Translate:

9^x = 1/3
9^x = 3^-1
(3^2)^x = 3^-1
3^2x = 3^-1

2x = -1
x = -1/2

log base 10 (N)/ log base 10 (sub #)

in this case log (1/3)/log(9) put that in your calculator with the regular base 10

its called the "change of base formula" look in your textbook or online to explain further

9 raised to what power will give you 1/3

thats all it means really

so the answer is -1/2

log(base x) z = y

======

x^y=z

same exact things those. one is the definition of the other. remember log is the opposite of exponent
