If you leave your home open and someone walks in and steals your TV set, that is still theft, it's just not breaking and entering.
Stealing bandwidth is still theft. People pay for their internet, and if someone else logs onto their network, it costs them in their time, because those internet pages will load slower with another user doing who knows what on there.
On the other side, if people set up a network they should secure it, just most people are ignorant about how tech works and how to do stuff. Even if it says in the manual, those manuals are not always easy to understand. They use too much tech lingo.

Well Singapore is quite hard on law enforcement, and it works, check their crime rates.
And he probably did more than just connect to send an e-mail.
It is quite common for people to leave their net unsecured, some of my clients had their office net wide open. Many people do not realize there are many youngsters with a WiFi scanner on their keychains or their PDAs just looking for a free access to the web.
It is a quite new technology and many people are still not aware of the risks.

They should have a secured network, but you have to realize there are a lot of peeps out there that don't have a clue what they are doing with a computer much less how to secure their network.

i agree, thats retarded, every router comes with all you need to make them secure, it;s not our fault that people get in such a huge hurry and skip that step at set-up.
