with a gs u can do a lot. u can turn it into a gs-t(turbo) or a gsx(turbo all wheel drive). cold air intake, exhaust, pretty much anything u can think of can be done. check ebay for prices. to sweatshop on wheels, the eclipse IS made for a turbo. gs-t and gsx ring a bell.....and u can get more than 225-250hp. my ex boss had a talon which is an eclipse under the eagle name and he had over 300hp at the wheels dyno proven

Let me first say you are getting 140 hp to the crank and by the time it goes through all the gears etc.. you are getting about 119hp peak to the ground if you have a stick, if you have an automatic about 112hp peak before mods.

Your 1/4 mile times stock about 16.5 seconds with a stick
and about 17.5 seconds if you have an automatic.

Weight about 2,848 lbs.

You can add mods to make it breathe better, pullies to reduce motor drag, port intake manifold modify the ecu with a piggyback system or you can turbo it plus the mods I mentioned the skies the limit a good turbo kit full moter rebuild and with install by a good shop around $5-6,000.00.

If you want to go without a turbo you will only get about an extra15 mabey 20 hp to the ground if you are lucky with all the bolt-on mods and still be able to ride on the street w/o a lumpy idle or rev high to keep motor running.

Cost about 2grand to mod without a turbo and still be streetable if you let a shop do all the work.

Note:The Non Turbo you have is a "Top End" car, in otherwords most of your sweet spot for power starts about 60-65-70 mph it's not really a light to light racer per se.

Also check with the laws in your state and beware that if you live in California you will not find a State (CARB) (Smog Legal) approved turbo kit or a supercharger kit so you will not be able to have one installed for use on the street if you live in that state.

It will not be cheap and if you go the turbo route it parts will break if you get boost greedy.

You can get up to about 225-250hp to the ground and you should have very few problems.

In my opinion it would be in your best intrest to get as much as you can with bolt-ons and save your money for a better, newer car that was made for a Turbo or a Supercharger like a Cobalt Super Charged, Subaru WRX or if you really like the Eclipse style get an 06-07 GT it's very fast (Kinda Porky) but straight line she can fly trust me I test drove one I know.

Modifying a car for turbo use is not a good idea as it may run right w/o problems or it may run like junk depending on who does the work and if you don't know what you are doing when it comes to installing and tunning a trubo aor any motor mod for that matter well a big (BOOM!!!!) is what your motor will sound like.

I had the same dream as you and I bought mines (used) off a lot the salesman did not tell me I could not add a turbo in the state of California and well $27,000.00 with intrest down the hole!!!

Don't get me wrong it's a weak kinda quick with the header muffler and homemade intake mod I had installed and may at a later date add Carbon Fiber to lighten it at a cost of about $3-5,000.00 but for now a honda V Tec gives me a run for my money and some Hondas are really fast w/o a Turbo so watch out!

Toyota Sicon 160hp kills me from light to light on a highway again I get a run for my money.

Eclipse GS/RS with the 420a's are kinda quick, look good, etc.. and you can mod them anyway you choose you just gotta
have a big wallet and a cool head.

Good Luck and I hope you don't live in the "Unfreindly State of California" because you will never truly be free to have fun with a Sport-Compact car.

Cheap or Fast pick one sorry but ya can't have both.
