Breast milk should not be microwaved because it can kill the nutrients.
Formula really shouldn't be microwaved either, however, depending on the microwave, I put a 4 oz bottle in for about 20 seconds, a 6 oz bottle for 25 seconds, and an 8 oz for 30. Then I shake it up a lot and test it several times.
Otherwise, I use a crockpot to heat bottles. The water is hot all day and it takes several minutes. You just have to be careful and check the bottle periodically to make sure it's not too hot. Even then, I shake it up a lot and test it. I find that there are a lot of hot spots when heating bottles up this way.

DON'T PUT BOTTLES IN THE MICROWAVE!!!!! You can put a bowl or cup of water in the microwave until it boils then take it out of the microwave and put the bottle in the warm water. I would check the temp. of the bottle like every 30 seconds or because it could warm up really quickly. It takes less time to warm it up then it would if you have to wait for it to cool down

Are you microwaving because baby prefers warm milk? If so I would recommend letting the bottle sit in a cup of warm water. You really shouldn't microwave it. Not only does it cause hot spots, but they have proven that the plastic degrades when microwaved and it puts toxins in the milk.
If your baby will take cool milk, serve it that way. I never heated bottles. If you start them out with cool milk, they'll never know the difference, and you'll save yourself plenty of time. If you've already started warming bottles, you can gradually decrease the warmth over several days until your baby is adjusted to the cool milk.

You should never put a bottle in the microwave it could cause the bottle to heat unevenly and could burn the child's mouth and it will cause the formula or breast milk to loose all of the nutrients the baby needs. Put the bottle in a plastic cup and run it under warm water to heat the milk. And test the milk on your wrist to see if it's warm enough for the baby. It's also very dangerous for the child too it could cause the milk to be toxic for the child!

do not microwave bottles....definately not breastmilk
If you are making formula, you are better off just using warm water. If you absolutely feel you need to microwave a formula bottle, just a few seconds, and make sure to mix it really well (the problem with microwaving it that it creates hot spots) and test it on your wrist.

My sister used to microwave some water (in a measuring cup) and warm the bottle in that. When my husband was a stay-at-home dad he used really hot tap water and did the same. It doesn't take that long.

I"m sure everyone is screaming DON"T DO IT!... it isn't the best thing to do, especially with breastmilk. The benefits of breastmilk are destroyed very quickly in the microwave.
Having said that, I microwave in a pinch sometimes. 10 seconds does it. Test it and shake it up to make sure temp is even throughout the bottle.
Cold milk is ok to serve, so error on the side of caution

Hasnt the doctor pounded it into your head yet that you dont microwave bottles??!! dont put it in there are all! They tell you this for a reason because it can scald the baby's throat. Even if you shake it up there are hot spots.

I'm an avid formula microwaver.. my baby is happy and healthy.. My secret key is 10 seconds per ounce. 5 ounces 50 seconds. You microwave may be faster than mine, so you have to try it out and make up your own perfect timing. Never over heat it, it takes forever to cool off. I know It may gross some people out, but when i was finding my perfect heating time, i would always taste it before I gave it to her to make sure it wasnt too hot or to warm even. (i still do it if im using someone elses microwave! good luck.

"Microwaving baby formulas converted trans-amino acids into thier synthetic cis-isomers. Synthetic isomers, whether cis-amino acids or trans fatty acids, are not biologically active. Further, one of the amino acids, L-proline, was converted to its d-isomer, which is know to be neurotoxic (poisonous to the nervous system) and nephrotoxic (poisonous to the kidneys). It's bad enough that many babies are not nursed, but now they are given fake milk (baby formula) made even more toxic via microwaving." Dr. Lita Lee of Hawaii, dec 9, 1989 from Lancet.
