It has nothing to do with Passing and Over shooting. Kobe is in no way a Ball Hog. AI is more of a Ball Hog. Maybe in the street a Ball Hog is someone who shoots to much, or never passes. But if Kobe is the Lakers assist leader (5.5), then he can't be a Ball Hog. A Ball Hog in the NBA is someone who shoots outside of there offense. The Triangle this year, and last year , is made for Kobe to shot 80% of the time. He is just doing what the coach wants. Just like MJ, Kobe is a shooter. AI changes the offense during the game whenever he wants, thats a Ball Hog, no mater how many assists he gets, he needs to run the coaches plays and stop shooting like his Jason Williams (another Ball Hog, thou he's been playing better lately).

A ball hog is a player that dominates the ball, or just holds onto it longer than they should. A player that keeps the ball when it makes sense to pass.
Best examples are guys who try to dribble out of double teams all the time instead of making a pass to the open man. This could be any player, a guard, forward, or center. They could be a poor player, or a talented player. But they choose to keep the ball instead of making the best play for the team. They prevent the team from running any kind of team offense, and force their own individual play to try and score.
Sometimes it is the team's best player/scorer, and they are asked to be isolated so they can go score. These players are called ball hogs, but it could be that it is just their team's best option.
But there are also a lot of players that just prefer to make the play themselves, even when there is little or no chance of them making the play. Or they will not pass to wide open players. Or even just pass at all. Players that act as a black hole. The ball goes to them, and never comes back.

There is no single definition of a ball hog... everyone has their own opinion of what a ball hog is. If their favorite player takes a lot of shots, that's fine with them...but if anyone else were to do the same thing, that player would be referred to as a ball hog.

Someone that doesn't pass the ball, but in the NBA it's hard to say, because the coaching staff could be telling a player not to pass. A Real ball hog is a player that decides himself not to pass.

PEople who always wants the blay or when gotten the ball never gives it to someone. Like in basketbal a ball hog won't give the b-ball to anyone but to shoot. There is no ball hog in football nor baseball because in football you need the team and baseball you either hit or field.
