The most inexpensive way is to have a "cat back" system installed. This means from the exit of the Cat or catalytic exhaust converter the exhaust splits to two pipes back to two separate glass pack mufflers. From there two tail pipes exit under the pickup box. Does he have is heart set on one particular system? There are several out there he may want to choose. If he's a fussy guy let him choose. It's a boy thing. It's exactly for the same reason only you choose your bras. One type and brand is more comfortable than all the rest. Men are like that concerning the sound their "cat backs." These systems cost under $200.00. It'll cost another $65. to $100 for installation. Truck exhaust systems are relatively easy to work on. If he has a few tools he could do it himself.

$518.24
i bet you could find it cheaper if you looked hard, that was just the first place i found when i searched for "f150 exhaust"
you might even consider figuring out a way into trucking your guy into driving to a muffler shop and get a full on custom made exhaust with flowmaster mufflers (you'd get points for that, trust me) 2.5" dual out with slash cut tips? oh hell yes.
maybe you can get lunch out of it while they install the exhaust? pick a muffler shop close to a good resturant!

I dont know if you can put true duals on the truck or not.I know I can on my 2005 Dodge 1500 but more to the point.A good cat back performance system would run in the area of about $ 350.00.Be sure to check around and get a good job done.Good luck.

If you want to do it yourself you can go to stylinconcepts.com and they have complete systems for your truck. As far as getting it done at a shop it depends on what you want and who does it.
