I would think as long as you are mature, smart, and have contact numbers to adults that will be able to help out. Keep in mind you will probably only get short babysitting jobs at first because of your age.
Start by going to PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW with children and ask them if they would ever need a babysitter. If you feel comfortable, you can ask the people in you neighborhood if they would ever need services. Do not be pushy or annoying, try not to bother people ... you must get the word out that you are open to babysit. Once you have babysat the same children a few times you can ask them if they would recommend you to their friends. REMEMBER BE SAFE! do not walk to people you don't knows house alone ask your mom to at least drop you off, pick you up, and give you a phone call to make sure that everything is running smoothly. Good luck on you first job :)

I was 12 when I started babysitting my neighbores and cousins but i was pretty mature for my age and i knew all the kids and families really well. Most parents will look for people a bit older to babysit but just let them know you're there. If you have any older friends, try to go with them if they have a babysitting job. You'll let whoever they babysit get to know you and the parents might remember you later on. Good luck!

You can start babysitting at 12, but sometimes the parents feel a little more comfortable, with someone older, since you have less than a half a year until your birthday, I think you could start babysitting, first you should start out with kids you feel comfortable with, perhaps, a cousin, niece, or close friend of the family, will help you feel more comfortable until you are completely ready to take the babysitting responisblity. =]

There is no specific "legal age" for babysitting. I think that 13 is a good age to start babysitting.
And you can start by asking anybody you know that has kids. Just drop hints, "Oh, and if you ever need help, I can take care of the kids." Or you can try to print out flyers and stuff, but I think that it really helps when people KNOW the babysitter. So ask around, tell your friends' parents, maybe they'll set you up.

In most States and Provinces 12 years old is the earliest legally accepted age for Babysitters. I also really recommend that before you start baby sitting that you take a Baby Sitting course that is offered by your local YWCA /YMCA. The information in this course is great and many parents will hire you if they know you have taken it. Don't worry about finding work. Once you say you are available you will be busy! Good Luck and Happy Sitting!

dont know if there's an age on that but i suppose there is.
I was babysitting for a family of four kids when i was in 6th grade. the kids were aged 6 to 12mos. I was hmm 12 and had been babysitting for at least two years prior to that and changing cloth diapers at age 7. (my lil sis)
I suppose it depends on the laws nowadays but seems kids these days arent mature enough. are you? hope so.

Do you mean by strangers? Well your getting old enough to get your working papers so start up refrences, if you have family that needs a babysitter just tell them to write up good refrences about you. I don't think anyone is gonna hire a 13 year old to babysit unless you talk to them like your not a kid and you have refrences and you know what your doing.. And if you do get a job doing it don't be stupid, theres ALOT OF CRAZY SICK PEOPLE OUT THERE.. Talk to your mom about working.. Theres alot of BETTER jobs out there instead of working off the books.. Summer is comming too go to a clothing store, put up ad's around where u live@ as a dog walker, cat/dog sitter, packing bags (i know i know just listing stuff, lolz) picking up kids from their afterschool... I dunno...
