I dont want to go and buy some gimicky product. Just something that had worked for others to get fingerprints and the like off their computer screens. The little smudges drive me nuts! cheers, and thanks!

Hi. Windex for glass screen, 90% alcohol or water with a TINY amount of soap for LCDs, but remember, scratches like diamonds are forever.

If you don't want to buy screen cleaner, then just use warm water and a clean cloth or paper towels. DO NOT use Windex. Computer monitors are not mirrors or window glass, they do not benefit from ammonia, in fact, it can and will damage the monitor surface. And a computer tech taught me that 15 years ago, when monitors were a lot less dependable than they are now.

Hi Tropicalboy,

Use windex & a soft cloth or paper towel for a CRT.

For LCDs most experts suggest you can use a cleaning solution of 50% distilled water and 50% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol). You should use a soft cloth such as an old cotton T-shirt or handkerchief. Don't use paper towels, tissues, or ordinary dish cloths, as harsh cloths may damage the soft surface of an LCD screen.
