My advice is to wait until at least your due date. I was induced at 38 weeks because my blodd pressure was going up and my baby had already measured a 5 1/2 pounds at a 35 week ultrasound. They started my labor and 12 hours later I had to go in for an unplanned c-section because my baby wasn't going down into the birth canal. Pitocin SUCKS!!!! Your contractions come on FASTER and STRONGER than if they were to come naturally. After listening to me scream obscenities for two hours my doc decided to take me into the OR, signing a concent form while in very active labor SUCKED!!!! If I have my way with the next baby, no matter how miserable I am, I am going to do everything in my power thats healthy to wait until my due date!!!!!

I had a midwife who was willing to help me out, but I didn't want to do pitocin. I would talk to your doctor about more natural ways to induce...like see if he/she will "strip your membranes" while they are doing the exam. It may be a little painful (can give a little cramping and bleeding), but I had the procedure done with 3 out of 4 of my children, and went into labor within the next 36 hours. If your body is ready enough, if could work for you. Another option is a little castor oil goes a long way. I know it's an old wives tale, but again, if your body is ready, there is a 70% chance that this could put you into labor. Worst case scenario, you rid your body of some waste before delivery. I mix 4 tablespoons of castor oil with 4 tablespoons of orange juice (I've tried it with other juices, and OJ is the best). Shake it up and gulp it down fast.
Best of luck to you!!! I know this feels like the longest week of your life.

They say it's best if you wait till baby is ready to come out. However, that being said, my doc is inducing me right around my 39th week due to the fact that he thinks my baby is going to be a bit large and doesn't want to have to wait too long for me to go into labor on my own.
Talk to the doc. Since you are so uncomfortable, he may go along with it. Good luck!

doctors prefer to wait till the baby decides to come on their own. normaly the only way they will induce is if you are past your due date. i'm afrade the only thing you can do is try to relaxs and have your partner do his best to help you. my dr told me to take benadryl...it does nothing for the pain but it shure as hell will put you to sleep..lol

Unless you are in extreme pain they will probably say no. You want things to be as natural as possible.
