I have a stencil that I made and I need to spray paint it onto a backpack. What is the most effective way to keep the stencil down? The stencil has 3 different parts. I don't want to use spray adhesive because it's too hard to get it to come off. Tape won't work because there's a lot of little details and when I spray it, that part of the stencil blows up and the paint ends up going under the stencil. What can I do?

Use a VERY LIGHT coat of spray adhesive. Just a quick spritz. Let it dry before you put the stencil on the fabric. Letting it dry first makes it tacky enough to hold down, but not stick to the fabric. You should be able to peel it up very easily.

Test it out using a scrap of the stencil material and a scrap of fabric before you do it to your backpack.

if there are three parts, do them each seperatley. use tape and make sure the backpack is as flat as you can get it. spray lightly back and forth until you get a good coat thickness. it'll be messy, but use your fingers on the parts that fly up.

do little parts at a time and tape down each of those small sections. you might also want to test it first on a separate piece of clothe or paper.
