I'm not some crazy dude who hates America nor am I some dude who believes that the world would be some better place without America, nor some stupid jerk trying to shove reality down peoples' throats...I'm just curious. With all of the events transpiring lately such as disarray in Congress, the precipitated invasion of Iraq and the war, very reminiscent to Vietnam, that followed, growinig tensions with Iran, and possible future terroist attacks, one can only speculate about the future of America. To be honest I could really care less about this matter, but like I said this is just all curiosity. All I want is some feedback, positive neutral or negative.

Linda Ann 919. I agree with you there, but as far as the greatest country, America really isn't any better than the other countries. There really isn't a "great country" on earth. Every country has some sort of disfunction. Still, you make a very good point.
P.S. I like how you said "Dude".

As I read the newspaper, or watch the news it becomes clear that the media has a sensational imagination. Don't get me wrong - the stories they tell most likely all have merit. I just find the information seems to be presented in a way that will alarm anyone that reads the newspaper, or watches the news. This is intentional - once they have your attention you will have to return to see how the story unfolds.
There are plenty of wonderful stories about people that perform great services in my area, and I'm sure in yours too. These stories don't get the same presentation in the media (there's nothing to be alarmed about). This may sound boring, but I try to find some balance in life. There wouldn't be any good without the bad. It all depends on how I look at it. I try to help the things I can have an effect on, and accept the things that are out of my control. The hard part is knowing the difference.

Like the great Greek and Roman empires before us, the United States of America has seen its glory days. Our leaders have become jaded by their own hubris, greed, and corruption. We, as a society, have suffered moral decay and become a culture based on consumerism and materialistic values. In ancient Rome, gluttony was so powerful, it was considered a compliment when a guest would regurgitate so he could eat more of the food being served.
America is regurgitating on its own wealth and greatness, not realizing how it is teetering dangerously close to the edge of disintegration. Within a generation or two, the U.S.A. will no longer be a superpower; we will, in fact, be a society similar to Haiti and the Dominican Republic we see today: a handful of the very, very rich and - the rest of us - the very, very poor. And, of course, all the naysayers out there will call me a doomsday prophet, claiming that America is the greatest nation in the world and always will be! That's what the people of the great Greek and Roman empires said, too.
We have forsaken our spirituality and moral compass, and traded our values for the temporary pleasures that only wealth and sin provide. I'm not a religious fanatic (in fact, I'm not even a churchgoer). But, I can assure you that our gross negligence of what's right and decent will be our downfall - sooner rather than later. -RKO-

I think America is on the verge of a great challenge, and the world for that matter. I think the changes of the Earth will have more of an impact on civilization than our government will.
It may be possible that the world will need more of what America has to offer in order for all to survive together.
However, there will be those governments that will try to take advantage of situations like weakened defenses and try to gain land and resources for power.
As long as America stays intact with its constitution, laws and enforcement, no matter how much the continent will change in formation, then there will be a great country still standing.
No hype, just the facts.

unfortunatly yes. history has taught us that all empires eventually fall. We are no different. People in this country have become too greedy (cheap labor overseas, high credit debt ect). In addition to this, we are no longer a united country. There are too many conflicting interests to ever get anything accomplished. When my grandparents were young, they believed it was an honor to go and fight for ones country. Today most people (including yourself as it seems) don't even care anymore. The presidents in the past had the COUNTRY'S best interests at heart. That isn't the case anymore. It is really very sad but atleast we will be able to say that we were part of great country that was founded on justice and freedom even if that is no longer the case.

Each ensuing generation seems to be less educated, earn less, and still think they are better than anyone else. Our leaders tell us that spending is helping the economy but every time you buy a Chinese or Japanese or any othe foreign product you are helping the economy of that country and hurting ours
Most Americans have negative wealth when you count what they owe on House, Car and credit Cards. They couldn't sell what they owe on and buy a house in Mexico.
We may not be ready for downfall yet but we are rotting from the inside out.

No downfall. Will the US be the biggest, best, greatest everything. I don't think so and I don't really care. As long as the ideas of the constitution stay in place we will do just fine. Our real threat is the unequal distribution of wealth and power. That has brought down greater civilizations then ours.

America is a wonderful country but we're not above the same fate that has befallen other great countries or Empires in the past.
You certainly "qualified" your question a lot.

That's actually a very good question. It depends who you talk to. There is always someone who will t ell you the end of America is coming because events aren't going exactly their own way. But it history tells us anything, it describes the resiliance of America in the face of any kind of adversity.
I grew up during the Vietnam era and was told that if we didn't succeed in Vietnam, the Chinese would be on our borders. That didn't make sense to me, because Vietnam is on the border of China and it was us that was on their borders. Just like we here that Iran is going to be at our border at a time when we are on theirs.
