The Second Continental Congress had the task of rectifying faults in the Articles of Confederation that united the original 13 colonies after the revolution. But the delegates realized that they could not do that. So they went into closed convention and drafted the Constitution. Some one asked Benjamin Franklin, coming out of the convention, "What have you given us?"
