I don't usually like chick lit because I tend to find it stereotypical, unrealistic and lacking in any depth.

But I'm going to Hawaii and would like some fun, funny, interesting, sexy literature to read

That said I'd like something relatable - I don't want to rread about perfect people who change and grow overnight. I'd like to be taken through a story and witness real character development.

If you have any favourite novels, let me know. I'd really appreciate it!

P.S. I've read "The Dirty Girls' Social Club" by Alissa Vades Rodriguez, and I loved that. If you know her other books, would you recommend them?

Also - I prefer to read about women in their 20's - so I can relate to it better.

Thanks!

I avoid the stereotypical chick lit books, too. Here are my favorites, which are less fluffy and less about fashion than most in that genre:

Carrie Pilby by Caren Lissner
Life A La Mode by Linda Lenhoff
Separation Anxiety by Karen Brichoux
Stupid and Contagious by Caprice Crane
Babe in Toyland by Eugenie Seifer Olson

And for a male perspective, High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

Check out the summaries at Amazon.com and maybe one or more of those will catch your interest.

"The Wizards Ward" and "The Destin Queen" both by Deborah Hale It's a 2 parter, but the books are both not that long. I enjoyed it, it's girly but it doesn't make you want to barf. It's fantasy with a good amount of love story twisted in!

ALSO if you want something a little more hard core:
"The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" by A.N. Roquelaure (AKA Anne Rice's pen name from the 80's) This one is a trilogy, but start with book 1 before you buy the others :P It's not a bad book, it made me giggle a little but it had a good story once you get past the giggles. (hehe)

ENJOY!

She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb

Also I am not into romance but I do like Marianne Stillings. She mixes mystery with romance and is very good. I enjoyed The Damsel in this Dress and the other two books in that trilogy, Pax - C

I just finished reading "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue" by Emily Griffin. I loved both books. These are defiantly not about perfect people. "Something Borrowed" tells the story of Rachel and her affair with her best friend's fiance. "Something Blue" starts where "Something Borrowed" ends, but tells it in Darcy's (Rachel's best friend) point of view.

If these don't interest you I would check out Jennifer Weiner's books. I have only read one but really enjoyed it as well.

Anything by Marian Keyes - she's a genius! Her work is fabulous. She's absolutely hilarious, and you can really relate to her writing.

Her most recent book is called "Anybody Out There?" which is great, and "Sushi For Beginners" is also really good.

I promise you won't be able to stop after just one!!!
