You could try reformatting all the Drives and reinstall a Windows Operating System. If not, and you have a bootable disk, use it to restore your computer to the image that is stored in the bootable disk. Otherwise if you don't have this too, just remove all of the that unwanted software you never use and buy an application known as Registry Cleaner. Registry Cleaner will remove all of the unwanted garbage that are stored and forgotten in your computer.

Do you have the Windows install disk? Not sure what you mean by the refresh disk.... If you bought your computer from Gateway new, you should have one. If not, try contacting them, or buy a new version of windows (perfect time to check out Vista)

To clear your hard drive, run DOS (easiest way is to go to your "Start" menu, click "Run..." and type "cmd")

Type "rm *.*" without the quotes and you will clear your entire hard drive. WARNING - this will delete EVERYTHING on the drive, so be sure to save all files to disk that you want to keep, and make sure you have install Cd's for the programs that you want to reinstall.

Now reboot your system with the windows boot disk and viola!

If you don't have the windows boot disk, try contacting Gateway Customer Service like I mentioned above. They should be able to help you out without you needing to spend the amount needed for a totally new OS.

Before I answer your question, let find out little more background regarding your computer.

Do you have a desktop or a laptop?
What is your operating system?
What kind of problem are you having?
When was the last time your computer worked properly?
Did you download any program lately?
