I'm actually for homework - as much as I hated it when I was in high school, it really teaches you a lot of things that come in handy later in life - independent research, self-discipline...

However, a few reasons why homework should be banned:

- Contributes to childhood obesity - kids are stuck inside doing homework rather than excerising.

- Children are at school for 6 - 7 hours already. Homework adds to this so that kids might be at school or doing school related activity for up to 10 hours a day. That's longer than an average working day.

- How do you know that the student is actually doing the work?

- There is no-one on hand to answer any questions the student might have (particularly in years 11 and 12).

- It places undue stress on students.

- It doesn't give students time to unwind after class.

- It can prevent students from engaging in extra-curricular activities.

There are none. Homework supplements your work in school, improving your education. And it gets you used to work - people don't stop working at 5 when they go home, unless they are factory workers or some such; most have to check email and do other work outside of work hours. This is good discipline for you.

It subtracts from family time.

Doing hw doesn't necessarily mean you learn it. Some teachers just assign it for busy work.

There are two reasons.

Oh, a third reason. How does the teacher know the student is actually doing the homework? As in your case, others are doing it for the student! A little copy and paste and your assignment is done!

If they would only extend the school day to 10 hours you wouldn't have to have homework.
