Me and my friend argue this a lot and he always says Hakeem had a lot of moves -- And I always say why waste time on moves when you can just knock your defender down and dunk the ball --- 2points is 2points

Exactly!!! Shaq is better, can dominate the paint like crazy and is the best basketball player in the whole wide world!!!!!!!!! Why waste your energy on spin moves and stuff like that when u back back someone down and bring the whole damm backborad down lke the "Diesal" did! Yeah!!!!! Hakeem is cool though and was a good player. I'd take Shaq in a heartbeat. The Big Sewer doesn't come around every decade and we might ever see someone lke Shaq, but players like Hakeem come around more often.

Having the size to knock people down in the center will help but when u r in foul trouble, u don't want to have a charge against u. Hakeem's spin moves and fade away jumpers definitely help. He can also knock inside as well. With Shaq terrible FT shooting, the only thing he really can do is go inside. Don't get me wrong, Shaq is awesome but as a center, u need some moves as well. Also power play in the middle uses lots move energy than a spin move. Close to the end of the game, u will be very tired and hence charging and missing easy shots will happen!

Both were great and dominant players but I'd go with Hakeem. Shaq, while more skilled than a lot of people give him credit for, got by with his tremendous and overwhelming size. He was unguardable because nobody was as big as him. Hakeem could be you with his size, his quickness, and his mind. He was faster, quicker, and way more athletic than Shaq. He was also a better shooter, free throw shooter and a way better defender.

Hakeem also played against guys like Ewing, Robinson, and Mutombo during their primes, while Shaq caught the latter of their careers. It can also be easily argued that Hakeem was a harder worker than Shaq. It also should be noted that as great as Hakeem was as a basektball player, he started playing late. He was literally learning how to play when he came to America and went to Houston University. And don't forget, when the two faced off head to head in the Finals Hakeem dominated.

I love Shaq, but Hakeem is the man.

I have to go with Shaq

Sure the dream had more moves but what did that get him? I consider 25 points the minimum for dominating the league and Hakeem only reached that 4 times and really only took over the league for 2 years when MJ was out.

Shaq on the other hand has been over 25 (26 for that matter) 10 times and grabs more rebounds than Hakeem.

Shaq has won twice as many titles and had a bigger impact on the game.

You have to alter your entire strategy agaisnt Shaq and he'll shoot inside the paint every time. Hakeem can be made to fall in love with his turnaround jumper and stay outside the lane.

Shame their primes where about 10 years apart though

Hakeem, without question. What sucks is that he doesnt play anymore, so people forget about his greatness when they see other good things, kind of like comparing MJ to Kobe. People forget how amazing MJ really was, and he had a team. Kobe doesnt have crap for a team, so someone has to do the scoring. Not to take anything away from Kobe, hes dominating, but seriously...its not the same. Shaq isn't good. He is big. Thats all you have to be in basketball, is that big. Hakeem was good...Shaqs game is gross.

SHAQ, Hes left a bigger impact on the game...he has 4 championship, while hakeem only got 2...Theirs been nobody that has changed the game like him, Shaq in his prime was unguardable, not even double or triple team could stop him, thats why they invented hack a shaq! Olajuwon is not far behind, though...Olajuwon was a extremly great player, but he is no shaq.

Hakeem can score in the paint, and has range. He is a better passer then Shaq, and is a better free throw shooter. You can feel more comfortable keeping Hakeem in the game in the 4th due to better free-throw shooting. In terms of force and strength, you have to favor Shaq, but Hakeem is a more complete basketball player.

Hakeem Olajuwon led his teams to championships. Everyone gives Shaq credit for doing the same thing but in reality he was always in a tandem with either Kobe or Wade. Olajuwon had help as well but he was the clear leader. Plus in his prime he was better than Shaq in his.

Hakeem was the best defensive Center of the last 30 years, teams feared Olajuwon whereas every teams ran their offense at Shaq and his pathetic pick and roll defense. In terms of career numbers, Shaq was a better offensive player. Over the long haul he was PERIOD. However, at their absolute peaks Hakeem was the best. Just look at how he DOMINATED David Robinson at his peak, Patrick Ewing at his peak and Shaquille O'neal who had averaged his second most points and had his one of his best seasons in rebounds and blocks

Hakeem Olajuwon because Shaq still has nightmares of the "Dream Shake"!
