My brother is an AMAZING songwriter, He has so many songs and each one is contagious. I am not just saying that because he is my brother, it's just any person no's talent when they see it. Ok so I am not trying to find a way for him to make it big or become famous, I am just wondering if there is anyway for him to get out there and get his songs heard. He plays the guitar and also sings his songs so I don't think it would be that hard but where to start? :S

I'm a singer/songwriter in Houston. Get your brother out to the open mics so that he can network with other musicians and begin to attain an audience for future gigs. Some open mics hire their musicians based upon their performances during open mics, kinda like an audition. Once out there, your brother can learn alot from other musicians. He can find out which venues are hiring, which studios are the best value, where to get his CDs copied once he's gotten a demo CD recorded of all of his tunes and where to market the demo in his region.
If your brother wishes to submit his songs to publishers/promoters, etc., he should record a 3 song demo to market directly to them, using his best 3 songs. (He can determine which ones these are from reactions of the audiences during open mics and/or gigs.) Shotgunning your demo to music publishers is a hit or miss endeavor and most CDs end up in file 13 unless you personalize the demo package to the person receiving it. Lotsa work involved here.
Getting gigs will lead to local, then regional, recognition, if your brother has what it takes to get there. Once he's getting some decent gigs, he should enter contests with fully produced studio tunage.
Tough business. I know a ton of great musicians here in Houston who could make it to the 'Big Time' if given the break. Breaks are hard to come by, though, so it takes a tough skin and lots of ambition for an artist to make it. Frankly, I'm a little burned out with music right now and I've been turning down gigs as a result. I'll pick it back up after awhile, but it can be difficult sometimes.
Best of luck to you and your brother!
:o) April

He is not the only one who has that problem. You have to remember there are a whole lot of people out there who wants to be a great famous musician, but it is so competitive of a market that there are so many of them competing with each other for fans and fame. Just go to a music store and look around and see how many bands are there. Which is hard to be heard. The best thing he should do is copy right his songs first then record them and go to an independent label company hopeful the will promote him, but he has to work hard to get his talents out there to be recognized to move into the spotlight. Some musicians never make it, some make it but became a one hit wonder, some play so well that they last a long time. Some may get lucky one the spot at first time playing or may have to play music for a long time that pays off. Billy Talent started out something like 14 year ago and now in the last 2 or 3 years now they have been so popular. Being an entertainer is hard work not like working for a construction company. It takes perseverance and dedication to get there

With me, tune writing it form of like a venting of the whole thing happening in my existence. Sometimes while I'm no longer being very exciting I write approximately consistent matters like a force in my automobile to break out, or my favorite situation on this planet on the second. Inspiration may also be whatever. I took a category as soon as and the teacher stated to acquire five random matters in a room and take a look at and attach them come what may, perhaps even relate it to anything happening for your existence. It unusually grew to become out particularly good; you will have to take a look at it. Also take a look at loose writing.. all you wish to have is a pen, paper and your brain. Write approximately whatever that comes in your brain for approximately five-10 mins, depart for a pair hours, then re-learn it and spot what is popped from your head. It's particularly extraordinary for every person. Best of good fortune!

Get some studio time and record his music.
Then send it to agents and record companies.
For the local scene, he needs to play live.
Dude you are going nowhere in your basement.
