26 drive letters possible. A and B are reserved for floppy drives, when systems used to come with a 3.5 floppy and a 5.25 floppy drive combo. The drives don't have to be on the same computer. You can map a network drive and give it the letter Z, even if you only have A, C, D on yours. So it would show up in Windows Explorer as A, C, D, and Z.

This are the "hard-wired" or "non-negotiable" letters.
A: goes to the first floppy and B: goes to the second. C: is for the first hard drive.
After that you have 23 available letters to use for CD readers, additional hard drives, hard drive partitions, network drives, external drives, USB devices and so on.
So technically a computer may have the 26 letters of the alphabet.
