the reason i'm asking the question is because my white friends can be like.. "my family is irish"(jenna)or "we are polish" (kim)and i'm kinda jealous. jenna can just say "i'm irish" but what do i say "i'm black" while it is what i am.. it doesn't have an ancient cultural meaning like being irish does.

I wonder.
My family has only been able to trace back a few generations.
My grandmama was Black Indian.
Two of my great-granddaddies were white. I have some creole blood---but....that's all we really know.
I mean anyway--
Once captured they were purposely separated from their own people and forbidden to speak their language in an effort to sever their identity.
Once here different people were purposely mixed and bred.
So even with DNA testing how could you ever pinpoint exactly WHERE you descended from?
Would it be accurate?
I can think of a few tribes who were involved in the slave trade but---
The best we can all say is that we all originally came from West Africa and leave it at that. For now....
lol

Out of curiosity, how do you know West Africa? You mean somewhere on the west side of the entire continent? I don't think countries existed in the way then that they do now. I doubt they made nations in the same way 300 years ago like now. The Africans had many, many kingdoms, many tribes and many people in small groups without loyalties to any major group.
I have no way of really finding my roots in Europe after 250 years, and name changes, etc., so finding an exact area for an African would be far more difficult as their most likely are no written records, except perhaps slave invoices.
A suggestion: forget "the old country" make history and leave a legacy for your children and grandchildren in this country.

The majority of African slaves that went to North America were from the Senegal region. The majority of African slaves that went to South America/Brazil were from Angola. The Angolan Semba is where the Brasilian Samba comes from.
I think if blacks had that sense of self knowledge, to know just where their ancestry was from in a more concrete way, they would feel even better about themselves. Its a shame that black history is only taught as blacks were slaves and in the 60's Martin Luther King rescued them from Jim Crow. There is much more to the history than that, and it starts in Africa.

you are able to desire to argue that we are heading this way besides. convalescing communique, transport, commerce etc, imply that the remotest factors of the international are progressively entering trouble-free attain. particularly, in terms of lifestyle, Europeans have plenty greater in straight forward than divides them - and oftentimes have greater desirable branch *interior of* their very own countries than externally. So the respond on your question is that we would finally end up with extensive "countries" divided up into geographic areas (e.g, Yorkshire and the Humber), and various the compensating platforms which convey peace woudl disappear. merely as an aside, the recent economic beginning place has a Clone city marketing campaign working, with regards to the way all cities are beginning as much as look an analogous. This seems to be the logical, merely precise effect of what you assert.

She's saying West Africa b/c the majority of the slave ports that lead to the Americas came from that region (Zanzibar went to Arab/Other countries etc) It would be nice to know where you are from 100%. We'll see. Heard they found Whoopi's ancestory is originally from Guinea-Bissau via DNA testing.
