I am sick and tired of people telling me my full size truck is a waste of gas. I pay for it and when my kids are riding in it I think they are safer in the event of an accidient. Besides I dont tell people what to drive. Shouldn't they all shut-up?

Would you rather get t-boned in a suburban or a focus. To me that is a no-brainer. So unless there will never be another accident I will drive my crew cab 3/4 ton sierrawith a big smile on my face laughing at your small cars

You have the freedom to chose to drive whatever you want. You have the freedom to ignore annoying people who want to tell you how to live your life.

Well if youre cool with the amount of money ure spending on gas yeah, by all means they can shut up. But my girlfriend says the same exact thing about her truck and how she feels the kids are safer and I tell her that she can just get a smaller SUV with a low V-6 on it (like a 3.4 or 4.0 liters) and they b just as secure and with a lot more to eat in the refrigerator and toys to play with with all that money shes saving on gas.

I'm driving a Hyundai Santa Fe, which I really like. It's 4WD, comfortable, got a powerful 2.7L engine, and is even a neat colour (copper). I do feel mildly guilty driving such a big car, but I really like it. BUT... it's costing a mint to fill it up!

In New Zealand we're paying about $1.55 per litre of petrol. It cost me $85 to fill it up yesterday, and that will only last me a couple of weeks of city driving (about 320kms). That's not really sustainable for me, especially if the cost of petrol goes up again (which everyone says is going to happen). If I was independently wealthy, then I'd probably keep the car. Since I'm not, I'm looking for a smaller sedan. (Just have to find something that is still fun to drive though!)

Why do you think that your kids are safer in a pick-up truck than a smaller car? Do you know that Pick-ups and SUVs have the highest rate of rollover of any class of vehicle? Of course it is true that some of that is due to poor driving skills, but your point is that when you do get in a crash your kids are safer. How safe would they be if they were never involved in a crash? How safe would we all be if all drivers had to actually know how to handle a vehicle before they were given the privilege to drive? When we all know how to drive my guess would be that we would drive safer more nimble cars not greater, vaster tanks that roll over easier. How safe are your kids now?

A big SUV is made out of the same metal as the smaller cars so no matter what, both cars will be crushed. Size does not matter when the strength is the same. Suv's are more prone to flip when turning at highspeeds and they never last as long as smaller cars.

I drive a SUV and I don't care what people say about it. If you can afford the gas they shouldn't say anything. And it is true they are safer and you can carry more stuff than in a crap Prius.
