I have found that AVG works better than Norton, but I have not tried every version. AVG does take up less memory than Norton, so your computer would work faster. You still have to clear out the garbage for your computer to work efficiently. Either way, you want a program that protects your computer in RAM, and doesn't let it get to the Hard drive first.

yes norton does slow things down. i revamp pcs and its the 1st thing i get rid of. and dont really care for avg. the best thing that i have found is adaware se. download it, its free for private use. once u have it run the full system scan and get rid of all bad or corrupt files it found. i usually run the scan every 2 or 3 days and have not had a problem in 5 or 6 years. good luck!

Norton uses alot of resources which can lead to the slowing of your computer. I definitely recommend AVG over it but try googling NOD32, it is the best in my opinion.

An important thing to keep in mind, regardless of which anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and firewall you use
( http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx ) is to keep it UPDATED, just as it is important to make sure you have all windows critical and security updates +
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

Note: The way I have mine set is to only notify me that updates are availiable, but to not download them automaticaly. Then I can check to be sure I get just the ones I want. I then click on "custom", and after the updates have been downloaded I look them over to see which ones I want, then disconnect from the net, disable firewall and anti-virus program, and then install the updates, and then re-enable the firewall and anti-virus programs before reconnecting to the net.
