my friend has asked my opinion of some images a photographer snapped of her, but they're all TIFFs & not opening however this Mac @ my workplace is configured... I don't recall ever working w/ that format before - I only know how to fiddle with JPGs & BMPs - can somebody tell me how to configure whichever program, or the workstation itself, so these images may display?

Hello Randomchromosome,

Normally TIFF graphic files can open up easily on a Mac. You simply double-click on the Tiff icon and the Mac OS X program, Preview will display them for you.

However, I've noticed that some TIFFs are saved in a way that can't be viewed from Preview. Some PCs create TIFFs that have some trouble being viewed on Macs. In those cases, I've used Lemke's GraphicConverter. This is a great program. GraphicConverter can basically load any graphics format and save it out to any other graphics format (as well as being a great paint program in its own right).

You can download GraphicConverter here:

Just load the graphic into GraphicConverter and Save it as a TIFF, JPEG, or what ever you would prefer and GraphicConverter will save it where the Mac won't have a problem with it. Best of luck to you.

Try GIMP. Its the move to choice in the market in this day and age for a Photoshop knock off. Its unfastened so it will not do any harm you a lot to take a look at it. If it does not particularly do it for then you definitely appear for Corel's Paint Shop Pro program. Also a smaller time rival to Photoshop. But it does fee whatever (however nowhere close up to Photoshop). Just google round for tutorials for GIMP there are quite a lot of them. If you do move with Corel, I'd simply move to a ebook retailer then. I think there are a couple of titles out to aid you get by way of the fundamentals.
