About 20% of the time.
I answer if I have knowledge or an opinion about a question or know where to find knowledge about it. Other times I learn new things that people ask about.

Not very often from the main list. If you go into a particular category, then the questions are more suitable, depending on which category you find interesting. In enjoy answering questions, sometimes other answers are enlightening. For the most part, it seems the dumber the question is, the more answers it gets. Maybe that's because the question is easy to answer and people are into points. I find doing the research on a question for which I don't know the answer is probably the most rewarding part of the Y!A experience since I learn something as well.
I also have different moods, and sometimes I will waste my time giving counter-opinions on questions I find ridiculous, absurd, or offensive, so I don't limit myself to intelligent and provocative questions. Not by a long shot.

Maybe 15% of the time depending on what category I am in because if you go into the sciences and math then you get more intelligent questions.

No, not too often. Mostly religion and "am I pregnant?" over and over, and over! I like to answer stupid questions with humor, (or my idea of it)
