I lived in the Philippines once and subsequently moved to several places, one of those places was Ohio. I will never ever go back there (or most other places that make up the US midwest or south) it's a very boring place. The weather is extremely cold for 6 months, then extremely hot and humid for another 6 months. The people there are the least worldly and educated among all Americans, and it shows. Everyone seems to live in a cocoon mentally. Most of them believe the world outside the US is a dangerous scary place and not worth their time. They look down at non-Americans, especially non-whites. They are the most fervent supporters of the Iraqi invasion. This of course does not apply to everyone, but it does apply to quite a few. Some of whom I've met.

My girlfriend' family moved to the USA and they live in Minnesota, I think that they did all right with the move. She was homecoming queen and seemed to fit right in. She is now married to a Pastor and they have beautiful children. I have never heard her ever complain of the move. She does however complain about how crooked some of the officals in the Philippines are. I will ask her if she had any issues with the move and let you know.
