It depends where you live. In the Northeast you would apply 2x. Once in spring so that it will retain water so that the plant wont dry out and will keep the plant cooler especially in the summer. Then apply more in the fall so that the plants will survive the winter and be more protected. Dont put the mulch smothering the plant stalk--give it a little space to breath. When you mulch during the summer it cuts down on watering and the plants won't be as stressed

Usually you only need to apply mulch once a year. If you live in the humid south be careful not to apply it too close to the stem of the plant as this can promote rot. The cost per bag is $3 to $4.

before putting mulch down, talk to a pest control company. No matter how nice mulch looks, it is an entry for termites and carpenter ants ( to start eating your home)...

I live in FL and I apply twice a year ,but that all depends on where you live. As far as cost that depends on what you choose. If you choose pine ( which is horrible ) it's like 1.00 a bag if you choose eucalyptus or cypress( which repels many insects) its 1.50- 4.00 if you chose rubber it 6.00-10.00 a bag. But again prices are different depending on where you live.
