You are confronted with the Borg(Star Trek). You have two choices: surrender yourself to the collective, or self-destruct your ship and die. What do you choose? Why? Personally, I think I would want to become a Borg. You can live pretty much forever, (albeit without individuality), you are part of something infinitely greater than yourself while being in constant communication with the collective. Add that to the fact that the Borg will eventually assimilate the galaxy anyways, so I would want to get it over with and out of the way. Also, the Borg are looking for individuals who want to join without resistance, as seen in Star Trek: First Contact. If you did that, there is a good chance that they wouldn't make you a mindless drone. Either way, you become pretty much indestructible once you are a Borg, and even if you die, your memories and experiences will live on in the collective consciousness (Seven of Nine alluded to this). Beats death to me!

I would fight back, and take the Borg out with me. Resistance may not be as futile as they say, as they have started looking for an individual to help assimilate humanity, so I say resist and die trying the Borg can and have been stopped before and the fate of the galaxy rests on how far you let them get before you stop them.

Ship: self destruct.
I understand what you're saying, and add to that that there is some likelihood of being rescued as well as the possibility of new technology defeating the Borg. The problem is, once Borg, I'm assimilating millions of others which to me is tantamount to murder (death of individuality or death period). I can't make that decision for millions of others, as they, too, will have to make a similar decision or no say at all.

I looked at it from both angles. First I looked at the possibilty of being a drone. If i were assimalated there would be the chance of being rescued later (though slim) but while I was drone I would have assisted in the destruction of entire cultures. If I had to choose between my life and the lives of countless species. I would rather destroy the ship and myself instead of helping the borg.

I'd take the death route. Life as a drone is unacceptable to me. But instead of self destructing the ship, I would ram my ship into the Borg cube.
