he did not create the telescope it was first made by some dutch lens designers.

he looked at the moon and saw that its surface was not perfect, therefore heavenly objects were not the perfect thigns they were thought to be.

he looked into the galaxy and saw many more stars, so the heavens were much grander than previously thought.

he looked at jupiter and saw a mini solar system and realized that everything did not revolve around the earth, thereby leading to the heliocentric model of our solar system.

r u serious?? for his advances in planetary knowledge and for understanding that we live in a solar-centric universe...a compound magnifying device was absolutely essential....btw...they had been around for years and used on the open seas, but Galileo turned his telescope up to the sky...
