Write about... a post-apocalyptic world where your protaganists have to create a new town off the wartorn land, try to get crops to grow in the barren fields, and establish peace among the survivors.

I suggest that you pick a character from history.. someone such as Butch Cassidy or the Sundance Kid.. and rewrite the history.. perhaps if he were elected president.. or Will Rogers.. as a Ballet dancer.. all of the historical characters personal history is available online.. at ask.com or google.. rewrite
history and see what you get.. all it takes is a little of your imagination..you can do it.. good luck

write about how north korea, china, and russia join together and start launch nukes at the US sestroying it all. then tell about a few people who survive and regain power of the us and defeat the enemy. also include like assassinations and a lot of fighting.

historic events will give you a few ideas as well as alternative history like what would the world be like if JFK had not been assassinated or GWB hadn't been elected president.
