I work in a labor and delivery unit. There was a woman who ate Brie, got Listeria and lost the baby because of it. Don't listen to the person who said it is not big deal!!!
Good your are educating yourself. Good luck!

Here is a link that gives you most of the what-not-to-eat foods because of listeria. Basically, don't eat seafood, deli meats, soft cheeses (unpasteurized, such as brie or camembert), and obviously caffeine and alcohol. Another food I found out about was not to eat bacon because it has a lot of nitrates. I found this out after I gave birth and ate my weight in bacon because I craved it!

You shouldn't eat deep sea fish... most seafood is fine :) Also stay away from soft and blue cheeses. My doctor also told me no soft serve ice cream or frozen yogurt from those soft serve machines. AND Definitely don't eat any salami's... this only mean no pepperoni pizza!... a bit of bummer as that is my favourite and I'm craving it so much right now!
Good luck!

I have never heard of not eating hotdogs. I ate the crap out of them with my last pregnancy. I know you should stay away from certain fish (I think it's warm water ocean fish). Also, not too much tuna as it contains mercury. My doctor also told me that you should stay away from peanut butter. New research suggests that the baby has a better chance of developing allergies to peanuts. You can have cashew butter instead.

...hotdogs and all similarly processed meats: bologna, salami, sausage, pepperoni, etc.
Best to stay away from (or greatly reduce) caffeine--cola, Mountain Dew and chocolate have caffeine--as does regular coffee and tea.
Salt/sodium - use sparingly, if at all. Note that mayo, ketchup, mustard, salad dressings, soy sauce, etc. all contain salt/sodium.
Of course, cigarettes and alcohol should not be used (if you use either, get help in cutting down - and eventually quitting).
Don't use over-the-counter meds and supplements unless your doctor approves them. Don't use aspirin--particularly in the 3rd trimester.
Good luck :)

Make sure that you don't eat honey, soft cheeses, sushi or more than one can of tuna about every other day or so. I think there are more products to be careful of but you should definitelyaskyour doctor.

I never heard about hotdogs. I was only told to cut back on seafood to once a week and eliminate oysters and shellfish. I think this is to avoid mercury.

I ate plenty of soft cheese, tuna and sushi and my son is fine. Don't take it so seriously, women in France eat so much of a Brie and soft cheeses, women in Japan eat raw fish and sushi every day and they have healthy babies {helthier then americans}, so eat what you want to.

It's better to look at current links for this info because it often changes from year to year.
