the 550 dollars was stolen all at once, and the reason was that a gambling event was in place where someone lost the 550 and saw the host (the person who won) cheating, and decided to take back his money.

I don't actually know, but $500 is usually the line where petty theft becomes Grand Theft. Who the hell had $500 loose in their pocket?!

In the state of Colorado shoplifting is considered theft and $500 dollars is where a petty theft becomes a felony offense. At theft of over $500 but less than $15,000 is a Class 4 Felony Offense. It is punishable by 2 to 6 years imprisonment. The $500+ amount includes all offenses being prosecuted up to six months. In other words, if you're being prosecuted for a theft in January and one in February the amounts of each theft will be added together (called aggregated in legal terms) to determine the total amount of the theft.

If you can push the amount under $500 then it becomes a Class 2 Misdemeanor punishable by 3 months to one year in jail and a $250 to $1000 fine. Depending on your past criminal history and any mitigating circumstances you may be able to plead down to the Class 2 Midemeanor and serve minimal jail time and pay a small fine.

Is this $500 at one time, or is it cumulative? That is $500 of stealing over the course, let's say, a year?
