with the corrupted political system will the city ever become the place to live like in the 90's, or will it remain the place to leave?

Detroit needs to be a wake-up call to all cities. Clean up corruption, end the high taxes that keep businesses away, encourage tough police enforcement of laws or your city dies.

there will always be crime...and every government everywhere no matter how big or small is somewhat corrupt!! the problem is not just black or white. yes there are alot of blacks who live in detroit but there are other places where the city is mostly white and a dump...detroit needs to tear down the old house where no one lives...give back to the community and if everyone would pitch in on there on street...they could make a difference in the community...
and when crime is reported open your mouth and report it..but no one wants to come forward and have it come back on them...
i remember when i was 16 and would take my little brother down there to heart plaxa and skateboard..never had a worry..now i wont even take my son down there to ice skate during the day or go to a sport event unless my husband can go with us..
its all a shame!

Politics didn't cripple the city, just take a drive through it and take a good long look. Detroit will never become the place to live, hell its not even a nice place to visit. No shopping no nothing but ghettos.

Every city has crime & corruption. Not just Detroit. Who is going to stop the crime in NY? Cleveland? Atlanta? It will never stop, come to realize it is a part of life and will never be gone.

It's not just Detroit. Look around, every city is corrupt and violent. I believe Detroit has alot to offer, but until the residents stand up and say enough is enough, it will forever be the place people avoid and leave.

crime didn't start the end of the detroit legacy. like u said its the corrput government. kwame isn't doing anything for the city and because of the firing of the gm and ford workers poverty has increased immensly. detroit won't be the place its used to be until the auto industry is back on it's feet and when kwame is out of office.

not without a lot of changes all around.i live in michigan and have friends in detroit my first husband was born and raised in wayne just outside detroit.there is no work every time you turn around another place is closing down and going to another state or mexico.the only business that is growing sad but true is the drug business and funeral homes are pretty busy with all the overdoses noone wants to talk about.many people are leaving the state but between all this and illegal immigration it wont help for long.

Why do people say it's the black people that "want to stick it to whitey"? That's complete garbage. Bottom line is, the auto industry is no longer hiring, and many people who worked those jobs aren't qualified to do anything else, hence no job, which equals foreclosures on houses, which means you're poor. When people are poor, they steal and commit crimes, or do whatever they have to in order to survive. When white people go on shooting sprees at high schools, or try to meet up with a 10 year old they met from online, how come we don't say "there's whitey trying to stick it to the kids"? Sounds like some people need to get off the race issue and deal with the facts. There are white people in the city of detroit, even if it is a small percentage, and they are poor as well, and some commit crime just like blacks do.

It all boils down to personal responsiblity. The blacks in detroit, just dont care, they have no fathers to teach them responsability, so they just do whatever, without any regard for anything or anyone.
The black leadership of detroit would rather stick it to whitey by showing white people that they are in charge, even if it means damaging themselves.
Detroit needs to be put into receievership, because the current black leadership is to blinded by their anger to steer the city down the correct path

im from the D im 16 i dnt think this no place that will get better anytime soon and the city is worse than wut the news and statisics show the news is jus telling from wut they know of im not really nervous here at all but u do hav to watch yo bac cause people will robb or kill u wit no problem when i was out of the state on vacation n ther was a crim commited or u see the cops everyone excitied like they dnt see **** happen often here its jus like dam somebody else got shot or something but i still luv this city it where i was born n raised and all my boys here but for any outer towners i would suggest jus dnt do nothin stupid or wear nothin of value because they will kill for wuteva u hav trust me
