There is very little difference usually.

An isotope is the same atom with a different number of neutrons. This causes the atom to be a little heavier. In most compounds, this is not an issue, but for lighter compounds it can be a problem at it will change the kinetics of the molecule (it will slow down relative to the other molecules and carry less energy).

Some isotopes can be unstable and hence radioactive (alpha, beta, or gamma), but some are also very stable and are not radioactive.
